We’re excited to announce that Diigo has been nominated as a finalist for the Webware 100 2009 Awards put on by CNET in the Browsing category.  For Diigo listed among major platforms like Firefox, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome /Readers, My Yahoo, and others is quite awesome!

The CNET Webware 100 is a round-up of outstanding Web 2.0 products and services, nominated by the readers. The Webware editors select 300 finalists out of about 5000 qualified submissions and invite readers to vote on the final picks.  10 out of 30 will be crowned as the best in class for each category.  This comes on the heels of our winning Mashable Open Web Awards last December for which we owe a HUGE thanks to all of our supporters that submitted votes on our behalf. Earlier Diigo was also recognized by CNET in its “Top 10 Research Tools” list, among Wikipedia, Google Search, Google Earth, etc.  We’d love to keep this momentum going and the voting for this is super easy (just one round :-)

  1. Click “Send >>” pull -down on the toolbar, and select  “Get Annotated Link”

  2. Copy the URL and paste it into your website, email,  or IM message….   If you only want to share your own annotations, click Options and check off your desired filter

    You can also do a quikc preview or Twitterthis right away.

1. Install the Diigo Toolbar

2. Restart your browser

3. Login to your diigo account on the toolbar

4. Go to your Options button on your toolbar

5. Click “Set-up >>”  to validate your del.icio.us account with diigo
Fill in the necessary information and click the “Validate account” link.  Make sure you click “Save”

6. You’re ready to rock n’ roll.  When your bookmark a site with diigo, it will send a copy (with tags) to your del.icio.us account

  • Transfer status: Due to the huge amount of transfer requests, transfer will take a while (a few more days) to complete. For those who have initiated the transfer and if you haven’t received an email from us (or have only seen partial transfer so far), don’t worry. Your request is still a work in progress and will be completed soon.  Please see the latest transfer update in our user forums.
  • Data access: While your furl links transfer may take a while to complete,  you can start adding new bookmarks to your new Diigo account.  Before Furl is completely phased out, you can still access your Furl data there and export  them elsewhere.  The choice is yours.
  • Furl cache (archives): This transfer only takes care of your bookmark links.  We are evaluating the the best possible solution to transfer those cached pages, but it will take some time. So please stay tuned!  Meanwhile, you can access Furl directly and export them there.

  • Once bookmarks are imported, it will still take one or a few days for your tags to get indexed,  shown and searched properly.
  • Although you cannot add new bookmark to your furl account now, you can still log into your Furl account, access your old bookmarks, andinitiate “export” to backup your links and cache documents

When you sign in to Diigo the very first time, you will be prompted to install either our Diigo’s toolbar (Firefox / IE), or  Diigolet (all major browsers supported).  Then you’ll be ready to begin Diigoing!

Good news for Twitter fans:  check out  Diigo’s  “(Annotated) Twitter-This“  ~ we’ve combined the convenience of bookmarking / annotating with Twitter, and made it super easy for you to post interesting (annotated) link with a shorten URL to Twitter.   Most importantly, these are not just ordinary simple shorten urls… Diigo’s “(Annotated) Twitte-this”  also allows you to easily add highlights and sticky notes to any webpage, and then share the annotated page with your twitter followers.  Result?   They will just see an ordinary link in the twitter message; however, when clicking on the link, they can also see your highlights and sticky notes right on the webpage!  Cool, huh?!

There are two easy ways to do this:

1) Click the “Bookmark” button on the diigo toolbar to open up the bookmarking window. Simply check off  “Twitter this” and bookmark as usual.

When you click “Save”, a Twitter-this input window will pop up with a shorten URL and link title.  You can further edit the 140 characters.  Click “Send”  will automatically send this tweet for your Twitter account.  It will also automatically save it as a bookmark in your diigo account.   That’s it!

2) Similarly,  click “Send” >>  “To Twitter”  on the toolbar.    Use this when you’ve already bookmarked or don’t plan to bookmark the link into diigo.

Whatever method you prefer,  Diigo’s “(Annotated) Twitterthis”  seamlessly integrates your workflow and makes it easy to share your online discovery to Twitter without having to open up another app.   Check it out and let us know what you think!

    Google just announced that it will gradually phase out Google Notebook and many people are looking for alternatives. Here is a brief side-by-side comparison of Google Notebook and Diigo:

    1. Google Notebook is very much similar to Diigo Lists. In Diigo Lists, you can organize, share and display specific collections of bookmarks. Once you add bookmarks to your list, you can easily re-arrange the collections by drag-and-drop, and add “section”. And you can publish a Diigo list as an HTML document.
    2. In Diigo, an item in a list is also saved separately as a bookmark (which can be tagged). So in this sense, Diigo integrates both Google Notebook and Google Bookmark.
    3. Diigo also has the important advantage that “clippings” are really “highlights” on the original web pages and will be shown as such when you re-visit the web pages, reminding you the exact context of the clippings.
    4. Another unique Diigo list feature: once you create a list, click the ” WebSlides” button, you can browse, play and annotate any list of URLs as a slide show! It’s great for content browsing, sharing, and creating unique presentations based on web content.Here is an example of a Diigo List, consisting of recent reviews of Diigo, and watch the Diigo List / WebSlides in action!
    5. Google Notebook is a bit more flexible in that an item does not have to be tied to a webpage. Diigo Lists will soon be upgraded to provide this flexibility and a lot more in the near future.

    So, as you can see, Diigo is a lot more powerful than Google Notebook (in fact, Google Notebook and Bookmark combined), and should be an excellent alternative, especially for demanding users. For those who are new to Diigo, please check out the Diigo intro video to learn more.

    1. Set up the “Post to Diigo” button http://www.diigo.com/tools/post_to_diigo or “Diigolet” button http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet in Safari or IE browser on your computer

    Note:   “Post to Diigo” is for easy posting.  “Diigolet”  has the advantage of not jumping to another page, although other functions not working. The choice is yours.

    2. Sync bookmarks with your iPhone. Follow the instruction by Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 If you experience problem in this step, try to remove all your bookmarks on iPhone, then, sync again.

    3. When you browse through the web on iPhone:

    • Go to your bookmarks menu
    • Find “Post to Diigo” or “Diigolet” button
    • Click it to add bookmark to your Diigo account

    We’ve made some usability improvement and some bug fixes in this version:

    • Under “Send” button:

    1. Add “Get Annotated” link …/ Extract Annotations
    2. Remove “Post a note”
    3. If a user selects some text and clicks “Send” button, the text will automatically be captured within the message window.

    • Add a “Read Later” button
    • “Quick Access Filter”  improvement

    1. Move “Add a filter” button to the end of all filters
    2. Add a tip when the filter is empty. “Still empty, drag a link here to save”
    3. Different color for Unread and Recent quick access filter

    • Add “Get annotated link” in the highlight mouse over menu

    These features really add convenience and enhance your browsing experience. Will soon write a more detailed post to supplement this change log.
