Introduce “Text View” for better readability

We have just implemented a new premium feature, “Text View”. By parsing your cached pages, our system removes the clutter around what you are reading and displays a clean, readable view. For those users who have upgraded to a premium account, you can access this feature by clicking the “Text” link under each bookmark in “My Library”. You can also quickly scroll through your cached pages via the “Text View” reader:

Please note this feature is mainly designed for better readability for long articles that are heavily text-centric (ie. not really applicable for graphic-centric pages, like homepages, etc).

This “Text View” feature will also soon be available in the upcoming Diigo mobile apps as well (*premium account access required.) It will enable simple text view that will fit better in small mobile window, so that you can easily download your unread articles when you have Internet access, then enjoy easier reading of your Diigo “Read Later” webpages on the go. We will soon finish up the integration to iPhone / Android and introduce the enhanced mobile apps. So stay tuned for those new announcements.

Lots more very useful premium features forthcoming. For those advanced users who wish to enjoy pro features, better support, and an ad-free user experience, get your upgrade today!

A week after premium accounts roll-out

Dear Diigo Users,

Since the premium accounts were rolled out a few days ago, many users have shown their support with account upgrades. I want to let you know that your support means a great deal to our young team — they have invested several years of their life on Diigo by now and are happy to see that their hard work is indeed appreciated. Needlessly to say, your support is extremely important to the continued development of Diigo. So, thank you! With your support and our team’s dedicated development, I am certain that Diigo will surprise you with more cool features and greater benefits, as we have done in the past. As you have probably sensed, we have great ambition for Diigo!

We have also heard a lot of inputs and even complaints about premium features, pricing etc. Your inputs are important and we are actively listening, as always! In a few days, we will introduce some changes that will incorporate a lot of your inputs. Some great new features will also be introduced. So, stay tuned!

Diigo Releases Premium Accounts

We are pleased to unveil the Premium Accounts for advanced and corporate Diigo users, who wish to enjoy advanced features, better support, and an ad-free user experience.

After considerable thought, we feel comfortable and confident that adopting a free + premium model for Diigo will allow us to serve our users even better: it will give us more resources to keep on making rapid and continuous improvements, and to provide better customer support.

People who wish to use Diigo for free can still enjoy a free feature set which should be adequate for most users. (In fact, Diigo’s free feature set already exceeds the feature set of other popular online bookmarking services.)

With the support of the Diigo user community, Diigo has evolved into an indispensable tool for many. We are passionate about making Diigo the best knowledge sharing and management platform for individuals, work groups, and companies. Going forward, we would like to continue working with our user community to make Diigo the best product it can be, and we appreciate very much your continued support.

Diigo V5.0: Collect, Highlight and Remember!

With Version 5.0, Diigo moves one step further towards its vision of providing the best cloud-based information management service that enables users to collect, highlight, access and share a variety of information, on a variety of devices.

Since Diigo started as a social bookmarking service four years ago, a major update was released every year for the past four years, each taking Diigo to a new height in terms of enhancing productivity for collecting and consuming digital information. The following chart illustrates the evolution of Diigo very succinctly:

So, what’s new with Diigo 5.0?

  • Diigo 5.0 also enables “Notes”, which is best suited for quick personal memos (via website & new Android app)
  • A new Android phone application called “Diigo Power Note” is being released as a part of Diigo 5.0, which enables Android phone users to collect, organize, sync and access a variety of information such as bookmarks, notes, and pictures. So you can jot down your ideas and thoughts, and take pictures of things you like to be reminded to buy or research later, or business cards handed to you. With Diigo Power Note, you literally have a photographic memory!
  • Web Highlighter for iPad Safari is being released as part of Diigo 5.0, which enables you to highlight and annotate webpages, using fingers, in iPad Safari, just as you can with ebooks on iBooks or Kindle.
  • As with each previous major release, Diigo 5.0 has substantially revamped the user interface for improved look & feel and usability.

There is a lot to explore in the new Diigo. So make sure you check out our new video overview shown above, install the latest toolbar & Chrome extension, try out our new apps on Android, iPad & iPhone, and of course, delve into the new site. Our new HELP is still under active construction. If you’d like to help, love to hear from you, or come join us in our user forum. Ah, bugs reporting – we’ve tried hard to test through the system as thoroughly as possible. Please do let us know if we have overlooked something. Also, let us know your first impression, likes / dislikes, feedback and suggestion. If you like what you see, make sure to help us spread the word!

And of course, last but not least, the entire Diigo team would like to express our most sincere thanks to each and every one of our users and fans, especially those who helped so much in our testing phase, for your time, help, encouragement, suggestions, ideas, and yes, bug reports to help us shape Diigo where it is today.

Thank you, Diigo Community, for your continued support to help us make Diigo better and better!

That’s it for now. Enjoy!

The entire Diigo team

Lifehacker: Diigo ~Five Best Bookmark Management Tools

Lifehacker is doing a writeup on the Best Bookmark Management Tools, as “the web—and web browsers—evolve extremely quickly, but if there’s one web browsing feature that’s stood the test of time, it’s browser bookmarks. Manage your bookmarks effectively and efficiently with one of these five bookmark management tools.”

Diigo is selected as one of the top Five. Lifehacker editor, Fitzpatrick, wrote:

Diigo is different from most bookmarking tools; it allows you to not only save the URL of a website, but annotate it, archive it (instead of merely saving the address of it), and share both your bookmarks and archived research with others. Even if you’re currently only interested in a bookmarking service, it’s nice to know that if you wish to expand your scope to archiving pages and collecting text in addition to just bookmarking URLs, you can do so easily with Diigo. You can access Diigo through their website, via the Diigo toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer, via bookmarklet, or via the Diigo Chrome extension.

As one user commented (Thanks, Samsonian for sharing your input 🙂

Diigo definitely takes this cake. The hi-liting and page archiving services are just amazing. Also the post-it notes help a lot during group projects. If people gave it a proper chance, I am extremely sure they will let go of all other similar services.

Diigo is wonderful!

Indeed Diigo is more than just a simple bookmarking or a web markup tool. It’s simple to use, yet very powerful when you want a better way to collect, organize, archive, and share online knowledge and process like never before.
